Another Way to Share Your Astrophotography: Video Slide Shows

Date: Aug 31, 2021

Typically, we capture our images, process them, and then share them. I share my images on this website, but also on social media. This is pretty common.

But once you have a collection of images that you are proud of, there is another way to share your collection - with a video!

I am not a video guy, so most of what I do with video has to be pretty simplistic! So if I can do it, almost anyone can!

There are many tools that allow you to make a list of still images and use them to make a video. Choose your images and the sequence you want them in, add some timing and transitions, and a title and credits image. Finally, find a nice musical backing track you have what you need to create a nice little video of the images you want to share!

I use both Mac and Windows platforms, but for this, I found it a bit easier to do with the Mac. I used this simple Youtube video as a guide and I was up and running in minutes:

Create a Slideshow With iMovie In Less Than 3 Minutes (#1251)

I imported my image jpegs to an album the Photos app, and then used iMovie to import the frames, add frame durations and transition, and even some text labels. Then I search for royalty-free music with a “spacey ambient feel” and found one I liked. The result is attached.

I have not tried this on my window computer, you might want to check out this Youtube like as a possible starting point:

How to Make a Video with Pictures and Music (Slideshow)

Sharing your video can be done in a variety of ways. You could copy it to an online cloud service and share links to it, but I have a free Youtube account and I use it to host videos for this website so that is a natural way for me.

What do you think of this way of sharing?
