Making Great Images of the Deep Sky: A Talk Given to St Albans Camera Club in the UK.

Date: May 28. 2025

Background

This is a video of a Zoom Talk I gave to the St Albans Camera Club in the UK.

I was invited to give a talk on my astrophotography with a focus on what it takes to make a great image.

This talk was given to a very photographically active audience, but not one that was deeply involved in astronomy or astrophotography.

This talk is about my own journey into astrophotography - covering sample images, the gear I use, and the challenges of capturing the Deep Sky. I also took one example image and talked through what was involved in its capture and processing.

My Thanks

I want to thank Rodger Attard and the St Albans Camera Club for the invitation to speak, Rodger’s help in shaping the focus of the talk, and for the help and support during the talk. I’d also like to thank them for providing this recording and for giving me permission for its use!

This has been a fascinating journey where Art and Technology confront the beauty and scale of a universe that boggles the mind…. It’s all about capturing ancient light - those whispering photons that have traveled long and far….
