Video - Join Me As I Set Up Three Telescopes For A Night Of Image Capture!

Date: June 21, 2023

Wearing My GoPro Camera While Setting Up

Many people are aware that when I actually get a clear night, I set up three telescope platforms in my driveway - image all night, and then put all of the equipment away again.

This, as you can imagine, is a lot of work, so I have developed a system that allows me to do this more quickly now compared to when I first started.

Quite a few people have asked how I go about this. So during my last imaging session - taking place during the smoke issues from the wildfires in Alberta - I strapped a GoPro camera to my head and captured my process as I was doing it!

I sped up the video so that it was not too painful to watch - while still giving you a feel for the steps involved. The key aspect that really saves me time is my Telescope Lifter/Mover - which allows me to keep my larger scope completely set up and balanced and stored in my garage. Then I can move the scopes out to painted spots on my driveway and get going quickly.

In the past, I had to move the mount, assemble it, mount the tube assembly, and balance everything, and this took time and energy and strained my weary old backbone.

Then I had to take it all down again in the morning - when I was sleepy and sleep deprived. What could go wrong - right?
